Give differently this Christmas

So the festive season is upon us once more, when grown adults will be asking; “Is it too soon for a mince pie?”

From the ‘Elf on a shelf’ (not a thing!) to ‘Secret Santa’ (the real reason £ shops exist!) we’re about to endure 6-8 weeks of prompts to ‘spend, spend, spend’ like never before (forget last year, that was at least 11 months ago).

What if there was an alternative? Not a ‘Bah humbug’ or Grinch-like alternative. I’m talking a true alternative, a means of saying;

 ‘Hey friends and family, all I want this year is for whatever money you are thinking of spending on presents, you donate it to XR’. You know that climate activism thing I’m always trying to get you to come along to but you never do… (okay that last part might just be my friends and family but I’m by no means unique 😂)

So maybe mix up the work place Secret Santa this year and instead of choccies or the boob shaped stress ball that was NOT appreciated last year!,, you all decide to make a donation to a cause you think your co-worker would support or be really against.  I LOVE me some passive-aggressive donating!)

The point is, we all have that one person who is just impossible to buy for, because:

1. They have everything they want already?
2. They’ve gone vegan, bought a cargo bike and keep berating you about plastic pollution?
3. They’re the one person in the office you can’t stand and they really hate ‘lefty liberal do-gooders with their vainglorious virtue-signalling’?
4. They’re your kid’s primary school teacher and you can’t pick up a bottle of wine during the school run on the last day of school and you didn’t know you had to get them something?
