Insure our future – join us in Glasgow, across Scotland and online
February 05, 2024
XR UK and XR Scotland are joining Insure our Future’s global week of action.
Fossil fuel can’t function without insurance. Insurers give companies like Shell, BP and ExxonMobil the ability to drill as the planet burns. But there’s good news. Insurance firms are starting to refuse to insure fossil fuel projects such as the Carmichael coal mine in Australia or the coal mine in Cumbria. This is having a real impact on the fossil fuel industry.
We still need do something about those insurance firms that refuse to wake-up and insure our future not fossil fuels. So we’re joining Insure our Future’s global week of action.
Here’s how to get involved
We are asking everyone to come together in Glasgow on Friday 1 March.
Time: 8:30am to around 11:30am with lunch at 12 noon
Location: Citizen Firefighter Statue near the main entrance of Central Station, Glasgow. What3words: https://w3w.co/eagle.laser.bright
Food: hot and social will be provided afterwards by our amazing friends from Scottish Kitchen Infrastructure For Activists. The food will be free or with a suggested donation of £2. If you can, please bring disposable soup containers, spoons and reusable coffee cups to cut down on waste.
Weather looks cold, dry and sunny tomorrow so hopefully a beautiful day to gather together for our lovely planet. Please wrap-up warm. If you can please come in dressed in pink and black and bring pink flags.
Placard messages: we would love it if you turned-up with your own placards, your wit and your messages to the insurance industry. The themes of the placard messages can start from these points:
- Insure Our Future, Not Fossil Fuels
- Climate Breakdown Cover
- Only Fools Insure Fossil Fuels
- Stop insuring carbon bombs
Hashtags:
- #InsureOurFutureNOW
- #StopEACOP
- #StopWestCumbriaMine
